CASE STUDY ON EFFICACY OF SIRISA (ALBIZIA LEBBECK) PHALA TAILA IN DARUNAKA

Background: Darunaka is kapala roga. Although it is not a part of Siroroga, Acharya Vagbhata and Sarngadhara explain it as kapalaroga, and Susruta Samhita, Bhavaprakasha, Madavanidana, Yogaratnakara, Bhaishajya Ratnavali and Chakradatta. Every Acharya has the same opinion about the site of disease is kapala. It occurs more frequently in adolescents, young adults, and again in senior adults over 50 years of age. Approximately 50% of the general adult population worldwide are affected. Despite not causing mortality, it does have an impact on quality of life.
Aim: To assess the effectiveness of sirisa phala taila in the treatment of darunaka.
Case description: A female patient of 25years age with chief complaints of dryness, itching and scalp scaling with white dusty appearance from past 1 year. After thorough assessment the diagnosis was made to be Darunaka. Patient was instructed to external application Sirisa phala taila (oil prepared from the fruit of plant Sirisa) with sufficient quantity for 30 days and the results were observed to understand the effectiveness of the treatment.
Result: We observed a significant change in the Itching and scaling of scalp when compared between pre and post treatment.
Conclusion: Results of this study indicates sirisa phala taila can be a drug of choice in treating Darunaka.
